In January İstanbul Modern Cinema presents a program titled "Robert Mitchum and the Birth of Cool" curated by film critics Fatih Özgüven and Yeşim Tabak.
Cool is a style. But it is not only about style. It is about life. To be experienced and worldly-wise, but at the same not really care about it. To be stylish, but not make a fuss about it. The theatrical act of not reacting. Carelessness versus taking a stand, seriousness versus humour. Looking for trouble and not complain about it. Cinema has always been the territory of "cool" characters, even before the word "cool" got around.
