Within the scope of the exhibition “Nuri Bilge Ceylan: In Another Place”, exhibition curator Demet Yıldız Dinçer is in conversation with David Campany, writer and Curator-at-Large at the International Center of Photography, New York. As the author of the book Photography and Cinema, Campany’s talk focuses on questions such as “What is photographic portraiture in the context of cinema?”, “Can a portraiture have duration and movement?”, and “How does the still image function within the moving image?” arising from the ongoing dialogue between moving images and still photographs. The talk will be followed by a conversation with the exhibition curator Demet Yıldız Dinçer on the exhibition and Ceylan’s photographic oeuvre.

David Campany is a curator and writer. His recent exhibitions include “Immersion: Gregory Halpern, Vasantha Yogananthan, Raymond Meeks” (2023); “William Klein: Yes. Photographs, Paintings, Films 1948–2013” (2022); “ACTUAL SIZE! Photography at Life Scale” (2022); and “A Trillion Sunsets: A Century of Image Overload” (2022), all exhibited at the International Center of Photography (ICP), New York. His books include On Photographs (2020), A Handful of Dust (2015), Walker Evans: the Magazine Work (2014), The Cinematic (2009), and Photography and Cinema (2008). He teaches at the University of Westminster, London, and is the Curator-at-Large at ICP.
