DECASIA

DECASIA

DECASIA, 2002
Director: Bill Morrison
70’, B&W, No Dialogue
Decasia presents a rare experience with its avant-garde and universal qualities. In the film that brings together archive images the emulsion of which has been seriously deteriorated, as the tissue of the world dissipates away in front of our eyes, humans struggle to overcome their mortality: From whirling dervishes to women in kimonos, film stock stains that transform into an antique amusement park from a caravan appearing in front of a warped desert background... This canvas of hallucinatory images that displays the tension experienced between the damaged surface of the film band and the sensitive nature of documents once photographed, leaves a trace on the memory of the viewer in accompaniment with the original symphonic music of Michael Gordon, one of the founders of the Bang On A Can group.
