Woo Jing Min’s film, where folk tales intertwine with speculative futures, tells a revenge story set on a desolate and beautiful island. After her sister falls victim to an honor killing, Zahara is forced to take on the responsibility of taking care of her ten-year-old niece, Nika. Determined to enroll Nika in a school on the mainland, Zahara earns her living from the illegal turtle egg trade. When a strange visitor named Samad comes to the island, Zahara decides to exact revenge on him amidst a wave of déjà vu. Referred to as “Malaysia’s Groundhog Day,” the film is a unique and magical experience with its innovative use of diverse mediums, such as comic books and animation, and its playful subversion of genre and narrative conventions, immersing the viewer in a strange emotional whirlwind.
