THE PEARL BUTTON (EL BOTÓN DE NÁCAR), 2015
Chile, Spain, France | HDD, Color, 82’ | Spanish
Director: Patricio Guzmán

In his second film Guzmán explores the memory of water. As The Pearl Button follows the story of two mysterious buttons in the ocean it delves into the dark past of Chilean lands, the dictatorship of Pinochet that reddened the same ocean with blood, and the curse of the “white man.” While the documentary presents nature in all its glory, it portrays human ruthlessness through the experiences of Chile’s natives.
