Hamit shuttles between unsafe districts of Istanbul and a poor border town on Black Sea coast, not so far from the city. He works for Ali, a coal merchant and human trafficker, carrying coal with his van and brings back fugitive refugees. Mehmet, torn between Ali and Hamit in their power struggle, spends his youth helping these two men in their work.

Hamit feels stuck in this gloomy town. His only consolation is the botanist Denise who came from abroad to work in the research centre in the town. Hamit and Denise meet secretly in an isolated hut on the seaside and try to carry on their relationship here, away from the habitants of the town. Even though she notices suspicious things in Hamit’s life, Denise chooses not to ask any questions. As a new group of refugees come to the town and get stuck here, tension rises and the couple’s relation start to break. And then comes that stormy night…
